Trump Comments on U.S.-Israel Conflict with Iran
President Trump stated that the ongoing military collaboration between the United States and Israel against Iran might extend “up to four weeks.” He expressed sorrow over the deaths of three American servicemen related to this conflict.
“They’re amazing individuals,” Trump remarked in a phone interview with the Daily Mail. “And, unfortunately, this is something we expect to happen. It could go on, and sadly, it could happen again.”
While at his Mar-a-Lago resort in South Florida over the weekend, Trump indicated that the military operation is “on track,” although he mentioned it might wrap up in roughly a month.
“Historically, it tends to take about four weeks,” he noted. “We anticipated it would take a similar duration. It has generally been a four-week affair, so even with a robust opponent, it’s likely to be around four weeks or possibly less.”
This statement came as the U.S. military confirmed the deaths of three service members and reported five others with serious injuries from Operation Epic Fury.
The U.S. Central Command, responsible for military operations in the Middle East and Central Asia, stated that significant combat operations are ongoing, along with corresponding responses.
Pentagon officials mentioned they would withhold the identities of the deceased soldiers until at least 24 hours after notifying their families. Details on the location of the casualties remain unclear.
In retaliation for U.S. airstrikes that have significantly impacted Iran’s leadership—essentially decimating it, including the Supreme Leader—Iran has targeted U.S. military bases throughout the region.
Trump also conveyed that Iran appears interested in negotiations now. “I mentioned they want to talk, but they should have initiated discussions last week rather than this week,” he said.
On Sunday, the president met with leaders from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Jordan.
He mentioned plans to meet with the families of the fallen soldiers “at the appropriate time.”
