Bronx Man Sentenced for Murder of LA Rapper

A Bronx man was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison on Tuesday for the robbery and murder of a Los Angeles drill rapper. The family of the victim expressed anger over the possibility of parole for the man convicted.

Isaiah Garrett, 27, received a minimum of 20 years for shooting rapper Avanti Flauner more than a dozen times during broad daylight in a Bronx pharmacy back in June 2022.

Although the sentence is lengthy, Flauner’s family was unsettled by the notion that Garrett might eventually be released. “It’s absurd to even consider parole for him,” said Roger Frauner Jr., Avanti’s brother.

According to the Bronx District Attorney, 27-year-old rapper Avanti Flauner, who went by “Bonte,” was in New York City for a performance when he and a friend visited Crotona Pharmacy to buy some drugs.

As they were leaving the store, Garrett and three accomplices robbed them of a gold chain and forced them back inside at gunpoint. Garrett’s associates attacked Frauner, and then Garrett shot him 12 times in the torso, resulting in his death.

The horrific act was recorded by the pharmacy’s surveillance cameras.

After the incident, Flauner was taken to a hospital but unfortunately didn’t survive. Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark remarked that the crime endangered everyone present, saying, “He killed Mr. Frauner in cold blood.”

Following the murder, Garrett and two accomplices fled to Georgia, where they were apprehended later that month.

This month, Garrett pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.

Meanwhile, another accomplice, 28-year-old Nation White, also pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and is set to be sentenced to 20 years in prison on May 29.

Authorities indicate that the cases against the other two defendants are still ongoing.
