Police arrest man with pet fish who was exposing himself outside a Florida Taco Bell

A homeless man in Florida found himself in a rather absurd situation outside a Taco Bell, leading to his arrest. According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, the man was seen with a “chimichanga” on his back and his pants down around his ankles.

Restaurant staff made the call to police around 1 a.m. Friday after noticing the man, later identified as 28-year-old Brandon Irizarry, was acting deranged and ignoring requests to leave.

When officers arrived, Irizarry appeared so engrossed in his activities that he didn’t even acknowledge them coming up. The situation took an interesting turn when police noticed how he tried desperately to cover himself by yanking down his hoodie rather than pulling up his trousers.

But there’s a surprising twist to this story. Following his arrest, officers discovered a live fish in a plastic container tucked away in his backpack. They took it upon themselves to ensure the fish found a better home.

The fish, a betta later named Baja Blast, was handed over to the local Humane Society. The Sheriff’s Office shared their bemusement, stating they had “many questions and no answers,” but ultimately wanted to make sure the fish was well cared for. Reports from the rescue group indicated that the betta was adjusting well in its new environment.

In a lighter note, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office reminded the public via Facebook to finish their late-night Taco Bell escapades with a receipt, hinting at potential regrets otherwise. Sheriff Rick Staley added with humor that if one struggles to keep their pants up, they might end up “swimming with other fish” at the county jail, informally dubbed the “Green Roof Inn.”

Irizarry now faces charges related to unlawful exposure of genitals and has been taken to the Perry Hall Sheriff Detention Center, where his bail is set at $5,000, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
