Recent reports from a prominent US military think tank indicate that China is supplying military assistance to Iran, which is currently facing significant challenges. The Institute for the Study of War has provided findings suggesting that this aid specifically supports Iran’s missile program.
The institute states, “China is assisting Iran in revitalizing its missile capabilities while the US and Israel aim to weaken them.” This comes in light of reports that indicate multiple shipments of missile fuel precursors from China to Iran have occurred since the conflict began.
Further commentary from the institute warns that China’s involvement in Iran’s military enhancement could complicate efforts by the US and its allies to disrupt Iran’s ballistic missile initiatives. Gordon Chan, a specialist on Chinese affairs, commented that “China is positioning itself against us, which endangers our military.” This perspective underscores ongoing tensions.
The Daily Telegraph recently highlighted a ship suspected of carrying Chinese chemicals essential for missile fuel, which has docked in Iran, raising concerns about Beijing’s support for the Iranian government. There have been reports of several sanctioned Iranian ships arriving at Iranian ports since the onset of the conflict.
Additionally, there’s mention of a licensed ship carrying materials capable of producing numerous missiles that is making its way from China to Iran. Zhang, a China expert, urged the US to seize a Chinese vessel believed to be carrying sodium perchlorate, crucial for the missile fuel system. “The decision on how to respond to China really lies with American leadership,” he asserted.
During a recent statement, Zhang emphasized that the US maintains considerable leverage in its relationship with China, particularly given its role in global trade dynamics.
Reports indicate that since the start of the conflict, Iranian forces have been actively working to restore their missile systems, which were targeted in recent US and Israeli airstrikes. According to intelligence assessments, Iran has been excavating sites damaged in strikes, sometimes bringing them back into operation within hours.
Interestingly, the situation is complicated further by the sanctions imposed on Chinese companies that are thought to be violating US restrictions by aiding Iran militarily. A report from 2023 by the US Treasury detailed actions against individuals and entities facilitating the procurement of components for Iran’s military programs, which include those for drones.
Moreover, an Atlantic Council report from just last month claimed that China is providing Iran with aerial vehicles, anti-ship cruise missiles, and support for broader defense capabilities. There are indications that China is also supplying technology that contributes to Iranian military efforts against US interests in various global conflicts.
Attempts by Fox News Digital to reach out to the Chinese embassy in Washington for comments did not produce an immediate response.
