Cuomo Critiques Democratic Leadership Over Biden’s Re-Election
Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo expressed his strong criticisms of the Democratic Party on Sunday, suggesting they allowed President Joe Biden to run for re-election despite his physical and mental frailties. He implied that if Biden couldn’t perform adequately, Kamala Harris’s tenure as his replacement has not exactly been stellar either.
Cuomo’s remarks align with a growing discontent within the party, especially following the recent release of a report analyzing the Democrats’ disappointing performance in the 2024 election.
“When I stepped on the debate stage, it was clear. Honestly, it took no expert to see that Biden wasn’t suited for the role,” Cuomo noted during his appearance on WABC Radio’s “The Pulse of the People.”
His comments particularly pointed towards the lack of action from party leaders. “Where were all the Democrats? Where were Biden’s chief of staff and the strategists? It was obvious he didn’t have another term in him,” Cuomo, who has held significant polling influence in New York City, reflected.
This outburst follows a controversial draft report from the Democratic National Committee, which criticized Biden’s supporters for not rallying effectively behind then-Vice President Harris as their candidate.
Interestingly, the draft, created by strategist Paul Rivera, does not address Biden’s evident decline in health, which many have pointed out. It also overlooks Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s selection to join Harris on the ticket, alongside shifts in the party’s stance regarding Israel after the October 7 massacre.
Rivera criticized the Biden team for not performing adequate polling before determining to support Biden, especially regarding Harris’s mixed results as a “border czar.”
Cuomo described the report as “disingenuous,” but he indicated that it raises serious questions about the Democratic establishment, casting blame on figures like Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for their silence on Biden’s condition during vital meetings.
He suggested that party leaders were complicit in protecting Biden, noting his public claims of being “full of energy” while performing physical stunts such as push-ups and jumping jacks. “Honestly? No one was fooled,” Cuomo stated.
He expressed a shared sentiment with Rivera regarding Harris’s record, particularly in relation to border policies, which he deemed abysmal. “What’s the plan from the federal government? There really isn’t one,” Cuomo remarked, emphasizing that many voters want concrete results and criticized the Biden-Harris administration for failing to deliver. “That’s where they erred,” he concluded.
