Freedom 250 reveals a national youth sports event: The 2026 Patriot Games

2026 Patriot Games Announced for Independence Day

Freedom 250, an organization that’s planning various events for the 250th anniversary of the United States, has revealed its intention to host the 2026 Patriot Games on July 4th. This event is set to welcome teenage athletes from across the nation.

On a Saturday, Freedom 250 shared details about the competition, which is scheduled to take place from August 9th to 11th.

The purpose of the games is to highlight and celebrate the “character, determination, and excellence that define the American spirit.”

“This event will feature a series of athletic challenges designed to test strength, endurance, agility, teamwork, and perseverance, while spotlighting the values that have shaped generations of Americans,” stated Freedom 250.

High school athletes aged 14 to 17 from every U.S. state and territory, along with competitors from tribal nations, will compete for a prize pool of $250,000 in scholarships, split equally between one male and one female winner.

“We are excited to give millions of Americans the opportunity to cheer and support some of the nation’s most promising young athletes as they compete for scholarships in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary,” commented ESPN President Burke Magnus.

“The 250th Anniversary is more than just a celebration of the past. It’s a rallying cry to inspire the next generation of leaders, innovators, and patriots,” added Keith Clack, CEO of Freedom 250. “The 2026 Patriot Games will showcase the character, talent, and determination that define the American spirit, and we are proud to bring that story to millions of families.”

Applications from potential athletes are currently being accepted, with selected individuals moving on to further screening and verification stages.

In a recent announcement, President Donald Trump stated that the National Youth Convention would be part of the America 250 events lineup in December.

A spokesperson from Freedom 250 indicated that candidates must provide an online video application explaining their interest in participating in the games.

The application requires athletes to upload a 1-2 minute video to YouTube, responding to prompts designed to guide their answers.

“Be yourself and speak from your heart. There are no right or wrong answers,” the application website explains. “We want to know more about who you are, what’s important to you, and how you present as a teammate and competitor.”

Some of the guiding questions include:

  • How do you hope to contribute to America’s future?
  • What values define you?
  • Why do you want to play in the 2026 Patriot Games?
  • What makes you proud of your country?
  • What does it mean to be part of something bigger than yourself?

To be eligible, applicants must be 14 years old as of June 1, 2026, and 17 or younger by December 31, 2026. They must also be legal U.S. citizens and residents of a state, territory, or tribal nation. Good academic standing and parental consent are required. The program will cover full travel for each athlete and their chaperone.

Overall, the 2026 Patriot Games aim to celebrate and showcase the next generation of American athletes, offering a platform for young talents to shine.
