Former Rep. George Santos (R.N.Y.) sued Jimmy Kimmel on Saturday for allegedly misusing a cameo video he has produced since he was ousted from the House of Representatives.
A former New York state congressman has filed suit against the late-night television host in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, accusing him of fraud, breach of contract, unjust enrichment and copyright infringement. ABC and Disney were also named as defendants in the lawsuit.
Kimmel requested at least 14 videos from Santos on Cameo, a video-sharing website where celebrities sell personalized videos.
Kimmel submitted the request with a “fake name and story.” The complaint says the requests were sent from “fake user profiles” created by Kimmel as part of a “scam.”
The late-night show “misrepresented” itself as multiple users when soliciting Mr. Santos’ cameo, according to the lawsuit, which was first reported. new york post. Santos is seeking at least $750,000 in damages.
“Kimmel chose to license all Cameo videos for personal use with the intent of violating the licenses by broadcasting and commercially exploiting the Cameo videos on national television,” the filing said.
Santos’ cameo video was first featured on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in December, according to the complaint. Kimmel also joked about being sued by Santos on the Dec. 11 episode of his late-night show.
“Can you imagine what would happen if I got sued by George Santos for fraud?” Kimmel said at the time. “I mean, how good is that? That would be like a dream come true. So, since I started buying his videos, his rate has gone up to $500 apiece. You should thank me for purchasing your video.”
Santos’ lawyers sent a cease-and-desist letter to Kimmel on Dec. 12, demanding that the video be removed from TikTok and YouTube accounts associated with the late-night show.
