South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem announced the state will deploy the National Guard to the southern border later this spring to combat the migrant crisis.

The deployment consists of Noem (R.S.D.) sending 60 soldiers to the southern border for three months. Noem said the reason behind the move was not “to encourage an invasion,” but “to stand up and stop an invasion.”
“We are sending soldiers to our border because it is a war zone,” Noem said in a press release. “The primary mission of these soldiers is to build a wall to stop illegal immigration, drug cartels, and human trafficking from entering the United States.”
Meanwhile, Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R-Texas) and the Texas National Guard continue to construct razor wire along the border to deter illegal immigrants from crossing. This comes as Mr Abbott and President Joe Biden continue to feud over border policy. The controversy further escalated with the Supreme Court’s ruling allowing the Biden administration to cut razor wire along the border.
Additionally, the feud has Democrats calling on Biden to nationalize the Texas National Guard and force it to comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling.
Noem’s contributions led to several voters including Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-Va.), Ron DeSantis (R-Florida) and Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R-Arkansas) endorsing Abbott in January. More than 20 Republican governors joined.
