Illegal migrants hide at middle school to evade Border Patrol, prompting lockdown and sparking safety concerns

A CBP representative said the agency has increased the presence of police officers during school hours to increase security.

El Paso Border Patrol announced that six immigrants were arrested by Border Patrol agents outside a middle school on March 27.

Gadsden ISD Superintendent Travis Dempsey said groups of immigrants wandered onto school grounds twice within a week, KFOX reported.

“This is concerning, and when we do something of this nature, it disrupts the educational process to some extent,” Dempsey said.

He added that schools are using surveillance cameras to monitor the passage of migrants.
