New York County Judge Juan Marchan ruled that former President Donald Trump violated a gag order during his trial, was held in criminal contempt, and threatened jail time for further violations. .
Marchand had the power to send Trump to prison for up to 30 days on suspicion of violating the gag order. Democratic Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg backed away from asking a judge to jail Trump for violating the executive order, according to court reporters.

Mr. Trump appeared to criticize Mr. Bragg’s bluff. In April, President Trump said it would be a “great honor” to be a “modern-day Nelson Mandela” in a “clink” that told the truth about Marchand.
The gag order allows President Trump to make public statements regarding witnesses who participated in the trial, attorneys other than Mr. Bragg, and “any court official or district attorney’s employee, or … family member of a defense attorney or employee (if statements were made).” It is prohibited to comment on the site. “With the intent to materially interfere with the work of … attorneys or staff regarding the case.” This includes potential jurors.
“The gag order must be lifted,” President Trump previously told reporters outside a Manhattan courthouse. “People are allowed to talk about me, but I have a gag order in place to show you how unfair it is.”
“They can say whatever they want,” Trump said of his political opponents. “They can keep making up lies and everything else. They lie. They’re real scum. But you know, I’m not allowed to talk.”
“So why am I being gagged for telling the truth?” Trump asked. “I’m just telling the truth. They’re not telling the truth.”
Mr. Bragg indicted Mr. Trump on 34 felonies in criminal cases related to election interference and legal representation fees to Michael Cohen. The trial is the first-ever criminal trial against a U.S. president. If Trump is convicted, he could face prison time.

A CNN poll on Friday found that a majority of Americans doubt that President Trump’s criminal trial will have a fair outcome. A CNN poll found that while more Americans believe Trump’s criminal trial has no bearing on his suitability for re-election, fewer Americans believe he is being treated the same as other criminal defendants. It turned out that it was only 13%.
An AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll found Tuesday that only about one-third of American adults believe President Trump acted illegally in the incident.
The case is new york vs trump, New York County Supreme Court No. 71543-23.
