According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to the incident near Central Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard on Sunday around 12:40 p.m.
According to witnesses, the woman tried to board the LA Dash bus without paying the fare, but the bus driver refused to allow her to board. The woman then attacked the female bus driver and dragged her off the bus from behind a plexiglass safety barrier.
The video shows the woman shoving and punching the driver, who then struggles with her and yells, “Get me off!” Several times.
The homeless woman was able to punch the driver in the face at least once before the driver got back on the bus and shoved the attacker while he closed the door.
Police told KTLA the homeless woman was later taken into custody. The bus driver was treated at the scene and released.
Drivers’ protest
The altercation happened just two days after the bus driver protested By organizing “sickouts” to put pressure on authorities about lack of safety at work.
Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority employees refused to report to work on May 3 following a series of attacks, some of which were fatal.
On April 22, a woman was stabbed to death on a subway train by an assailant who police later said was homeless.
On April 18, a man punched a Metrobus driver without provocation. stabbed him. The driver was treated at a hospital and released.
The group blamed “untreated mental illness and drug addiction” for the rise in crime, and told protesting workers that “sick-ins” were against the terms of collective agreements. .
“Transit users across Los Angeles County rely on Metro’s bus and rail network every day to get to important destinations like work, school, health care facilities, and to care for friends and family. ” Metro’s statement reads.
“We are appealing to carriers to reconsider the impact their sick call plans will have on the county’s most vulnerable people,” it added.
