Man in Chicago McDonald’s accused of attacking 3 with ‘hatchet-like weapon’ after demanding free food

Chicago police are searching for a man who allegedly attacked three people with “an axe-like object” after a McDonald’s cashier refused him a free meal.OX 32 reported.

According to Chicago police, the incident happened around 8:29 a.m. Sunday at a restaurant in the 7800 block of South Western Avenue. The victims were an 18-year-old man and two 45-year-old women.

“This is awful,” customer Mo Cannon told CBS News Chicago. “They don’t mess with anybody. We go to this McDonald’s every day and they’re all cool people.”

Cannon added that he spoke with the suspect before he entered the fast-food restaurant.

“He asked me for a dollar for coffee. I ended up giving him a dollar and a bottle of Newport. He had an axe. I didn’t know what he was going to do,” he said.

Shortly after, Cannon said he saw the suspect coming out of McDonald’s.

“I saw there was a little bit of blood on the axe. He was laughing. He was walking around with the axe like this and eating a cookie,” he told a local TV station. “The old lady had a hole in her head and one of the boys had a cut here and I think one of the boys had a cut on his face.”

All three victims were taken to a local hospital — two men, ages 18 and 45, are in stable condition and one man, age 45, is in critical condition, police said.

Hours after the violent attack, people called police to report the suspect had returned to the scene. CBS News reported.

According to local media, the restaurant’s indoor dining area was closed on Sunday night, but its drive-thru was open.

McDonald’s did not immediately respond to FOX Business’ request for comment.

The suspect has not yet been taken into custody, but Chicago Police told FOX Business that detectives are questioning individuals as the investigation continues.
