“We are pleased to announce that Chabad-Lubavitch has signed a joint statement with the group,” Chabad-Lubavitch spokesman Yaakov Behrman said Saturday night.
We can confirm that a hate crime stabbing occurred early this morning, around 2AM, near Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue in Crown Heights, near Chabad Headquarters.
The perpetrator, a black man in his early 20s, is said to have shouted “Liberate Palestine”, exchanged words with the victim, and then asked him “Do you want to die?” before stabbing him.
The victim, a young Jewish man, was taken to hospital and is expected to recover due to the stabbing scene and the quick response of emergency responders.
Local residents pursued the perpetrator and held him until police arrived and arrested him.
“This is an extremely serious incident. The victim could have been killed. This hateful act of violence highlights the dangerous impact of anti-Semitic incitement and hatred spread by some local politicians and leaders in New York and across the United States.
Let this incident be a warning of the possible consequences if this kind of hateful speech continues. When hatred and incitement against groups is preached, it inevitably leads to violence.
I know the victim but have not spoken to him directly since the incident. He has longstanding ties to the area.
Since October 7, there has been a surge in anti-Semitic attacks in the United States, including in New York, where prosecutors often throw perpetrators out onto the streets.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who prosecuted former President Donald Trump, dropped charges against and released many of the perpetrators of the violent siege at Columbia University.
