Gena Rowlands, one of the great screen actresses and considered a leader of independent cinema, has died. She was 94 years old.

Her death was confirmed by the office of Danny Greenberg, who represents Rowlands’ son, Nick Cassavetes.
The husband-and-wife duo of John Cassavetes and Rowlands said,Affected women” “Gloria” and “face.”
Additionally, Rowlands made ten films with Cassavetes over a four-decade span, including “Minnie and MoskowitzIn 1971,Opening NightIn 1977,Love StreamHe published “” in 1984.
She was featured in the 1974Affected women” and the 1980s “GloriaSome of her husband’s works include “The Great Passage.”
The late actress also received an Honorary Oscar in 2015, along with director Spike Lee, for “exceptional lifetime achievement” in film, according to the Academy Awards website.
Her son, Nick Cassavetes, revealed in June that his mother had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for the past five years. Her mother, actress Lady Rowlands, also battled the disease.
Cassavetes, who directed The Notebook, reflected on his mother’s performance in the film as Allie Calhoun, an elderly woman suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
“I had my mother play the older Allie and we spent a lot of time talking about Alzheimer’s and I wanted it to be authentic, and now for the last five years she’s had Alzheimer’s,” Cassavetes said. Entertainment Weekly “I didn’t think of it that way at the time. She’s totally demented. It’s so crazy. We went through it, she acted it out, and now it’s our responsibility.”
She appeared in the 1987 TV movie “The Betty Ford StoryShe then appeared in the 1991 CBS film “Stranger’s face” and HBO’s 2002 film “Hysterical blindness.”
Rowlands married her second husband, businessman Robert Forrest, in 2012. She is survived by Forrest and her three children with John Cassavetes: Nick, Alexandra and Zoe Cassavetes.
