Donald Trump is buoyed by the Democrats’ failure to use the Democratic National Convention (DNC) as a springboard for Vice President Kamala Harris’ struggling campaign.
The emboldened Republican candidate stole President Barack Obama and Vice President Kamala Harris’ trademark one-word campaign slogan, laid out his American policies and urged the crowd to vote for him in November’s election.
“Everybody will thrive, every family will thrive, every day will be filled with joy and opportunity and hope. But to do that, we’re going to have to defeat Kamala Harris,” Trump told the crowd near the end of his speech.
“The liberal policies that are destroying her country must be stopped once and for all,” he added.
Obama’s historic portrayal of “hope,” his undeniable charm and his drive to become the first black president catapulted him to the White House over a less than impressive candidate, John McCain.
But Harris seems content so far to use “Joy” as a tone-focused campaign theme that has lacked any real substance or debate on the issues.
The celebrity-studded Democratic National Convention had its good moments, but it failed to replicate the enthusiasm of Obama’s two conventions, an emotion that appears to be fueling Trump’s euphoric mood.
Former President Trump was in visibly good spirits during Friday’s event, charming the crowd with his trademark humor even as he criticized Democratic policies.
The Arizona rally focused on border security, with President Trump slamming “border secretary” Kamala Harris for failing to stop the increase in migrants entering the country illegally.
“You’re the worst vice president in the history of our country. You’re fired! You’re fired! Get out! Get out! Get out, Kamala,” Trump said as the crowd erupted in rage.
The appearance of surprise guest Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was an unforgettable, historic moment. Kennedy had endorsed Trump earlier in the afternoon, and when he took to the stage the crowd erupted in hysterics, chanting “Bobby!”
About 16,200 people attended the Trump rally, according to organizer Charlie Kirk, whose group Turning Point Action co-hosted the event.
Hey Kamala. Unlike you, we can fill an arena. You couldn’t fill the top row, so we had to cover it. We checked with the venue and they said 10,200 people showed up to your rally. We had 16,200 people show up to our rally. Same venue, less announcement.

“Hey Kamala, unlike you, we can fill arenas,” Kirk posted to X. “You couldn’t fill the top row so we had to cover it. I checked with the venue and they said 10,200 people came to your rally. We had 16,200 people at our rally. Same venue, much shorter notice. And we didn’t have to spend money on buses to transport people!”
The Harris campaign had challenged Trump to attend a rally for Harris at the same arena on August 9, but that apparently was premature.
