Coast Guard hoists ill man from cruise ship

A passenger on a cruise ship about 270 miles off the coast of Los Angeles experienced severe abdominal pain and was rescued from the ship Sunday, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

Around 1 a.m. Saturday, the Coast Guard 11th District Command Center received a request for assistance from the Grand Princess, operated by Princess Cruises, for a 63-year-old man complaining of severe abdominal pain.

The cruise ship was more than 1,000 miles off the coast of San Diego when the call was received.

A U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson told Fox News Digital that the Jayhawk helicopter does not have the range to conduct rescue operations that far from shore.
