President Biden's administration has warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the United States is “watching” Israel hold an emergency meeting on aid to Gaza on Thursday.
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield issued a stern warning to the Netanyahu government at a UN Security Council briefing on Wednesday. The US highlighted images of Israeli airstrikes that killed displaced Palestinians.
“My colleagues, this weekend, like many of you, like many people around the world, I watched in horror as images from central Gaza flashed across my screens. “Video appears to show displaced civilians being burned alive after Israeli airstrikes,” said Thomas-Greenfield.
“Israel has a responsibility to take all possible steps to avoid civilian casualties, even if Hamas is operating near hospitals in an attempt to use civilians as human shields. We are making this clear to Israel,” she continued.
