On Friday's broadcast of NewsNation's “The Hill,” U.S. Rep. Raul Ruiz (D-Calif.) said, “The Trump campaign's strategy is to target less-informed and less-inclined voters through non-traditional communication methods. It was really targeted.” And their message was so influential because it tapped into strong emotions such as hate, fear, and anxiety about the economy and immigration, as well as a lot of disinformation.
Lewis said, “[O]One of the things we're identifying is that the Trump campaign's strategy was actually targeting less informed and less disposed voters through nontraditional communication methods. And their message was very influential, tapping into strong emotions of hate, fear, anxiety, and a lot of disinformation about unemployment being at an all-time high. ”
Host Blake Berman then interjected and asked Lewis if he thought Republicans won because of hate and fear.
Lewis replied: In terms of fear of immigrants, statistics show that disinformation about immigrants…is associated with higher crime tendencies, but in reality, it's not just fear of immigrants. [the] Our country's crime rate is decreasing, but immigrants are also less likely to commit crimes for fear of being identified. ”
He added that Democrats “need to listen more to the needs, aspirations, and hopes of the American people, primarily working families.” We also need to treat the Latino community as a persuasion community, not just a target community. That way, we can invest to ensure that we meet the economic household needs of every community in the country, not just come to every community. After two years, they will vote for the party. ” and promote good policy.
Lewis also said that incumbent political parties around the world are losing because of inflation.
