Two children were injured in a shooting at a small religious school in Northern California on Wednesday, according to the local sheriff's office.
When law enforcement officials arrived at the scene, they found the suspect lying on the ground near a playground, apparently having shot himself, police officials said. Authorities confirmed he was dead.
The children were taken to a nearby hospital, one of whom was airlifted, but their condition was not immediately known, according to the Associated Press. Their ages and genders were also not immediately released.
Butte County Sheriff Cory Honea said the shooter does not appear to be affiliated with the school and authorities are working to identify him. A motive was not immediately known.
The shooting occurred at the Seventh-day Adventist Feather River School in Palermo, California, about 105 miles north of Sacramento.
