Aurora police detain 14 at apartment complex linked to viral video of alleged Tren de Aragua gang takeover

Police in Aurora, Colorado, detained 14 people on Tuesday at the Edge of Raleigh Apartments, a complex that has been at the center of the nation's immigration debate.

Just before 2:30 a.m., police were called to a report of an “armed home invasion involving a stabbing and kidnapping.”

“Deport these criminals now!”

According to authorities, an unspecified number of suspects entered the apartment where the two lived. The victims were allegedly threatened, detained and moved to other apartments within the complex.

An adult male suffered a stab wound during the incident, but police said the injury was not life-threatening.

“A short time later, the victims were released by the suspects, at which point they called 911. Multiple Aurora police patrol units were dispatched to the scene. 14 people were taken into custody and are being questioned by law enforcement. ” APD announced.

The department said it is currently in the “very early stages of the investigation” and will share additional updates as more information becomes available.

In August, residents of the apartment complex reported that the Venezuelan gang Torren de Aragua had taken over the apartment complex.

A couple living in the complex at the time recorded a video of a group of armed men storming the building. Another video taken by the couple showed a man using a hammer to break the deadbolt lock on an apartment door.

Local authorities have repeatedly denied that Torren de Aragua has a stronghold in the area, even though residents and property owners claim the gang has taken over several apartments.

One of the men seen on the surveillance footage reportedly admitted to authorities that he was a Torren de Aragua gang member. Two men seen in the video were arrested, but the remaining three remain at large.

Aurora police did not say whether any of the 14 people detained Tuesday had gang ties.

Aurora City Councilman Daniel Jurinski said “Illegal activity must end! Not all of them are peaceful immigrants seeking a better life,” wrote a post on X.

“I am reminded once again of the human suffering that has occurred when borders have been wide open and (actual) asylum seekers have been allowed into the country, and then the very people who are terrorizing them have been allowed to enter the country. I’ll tell you,” Jurinsky continued. “APD won't reveal their names and probably won't link them to Torren de Aragua. It's okay if they don't. At this point I believe I've made my point.” Deport these criminals now!”
