Secret police stations are reported to be hidden around the world to further the aims of the Chinese Communist government. Their operatives harass, intimidate, and spy on “wanted” Chinese nationals who reside in the United States and are considered a threat to China.

According to the Department of Justice, Chen Jinping, 60, of New York City, was arrested in April 2023 and charged with running a “secret police station” on U.S. soil. The secret police station “occupies an entire floor of an office building in Manhattan's Chinatown” and will close in the fall of 2022.
“The Department of Justice will continue to pursue those who seek to support China's efforts to extend its repressive reach into the United States,” Assistant Attorney General Matthew G. Olsen said in a statement.
“These blatant violations will not be tolerated on U.S. soil. The FBI remains committed to protecting the rights and freedoms of all people in our country and will defend against oppression across our borders in all aspects,” FBI National Security said. said Robert Wells, assistant to the bureau's executive director.
Chen faces five years in prison for conspiracy to act as an illegal agent of the People's Republic of China government. As part of the plea agreement, the government dropped one charge of obstruction of justice.
An accomplice, identified as “Harry” Lu Jiangwan, has pleaded not guilty to charges of obstruction of justice and conspiracy as an agent of the Chinese government.
There are likely as many as 100 secret police stations around the world run by the Chinese Communist Party, according to a report by human rights groups.
In early December, a Chinese man was arrested after using a drone to take photos of a military base in California.
