Unaccounted For Migrant Kids Aren’t All ‘Lost’, They May Just Be Dodging Immigration Authorities

On Thursday's CNN Newsnight broadcast, host Abby Phillippe said it was unfair to describe immigrant children as not being considered lost children because they are “people who don't know the system.” said. They may or may not be “lost.” They may be with their families. They may intentionally not communicate with immigration officials. ”

Philip said, [relevant exchange begins around 13:50] “There are court cases that say children can only be detained for a certain amount of time. I wonder how Tom Homan is going to get around these families to expedite deportation, or defy the courts and take young children.” I have not yet heard whether he intends to detain him longer than the court requires.”

CNN senior political commentator and former Bush official Scott Jennings responded: There are tens of thousands of children that our current administration cannot account for. ”

Philip then said: “Just to be clear about what you're saying, you're talking about people who aren't involved in the system. They may or may not be 'lost.' I don't know. They may be with their families. They may intentionally not communicate with immigration officials. So I don't think it's fair to describe them that way. ”

Philippe then returned to the question of how the Trump administration would respond to the court's ruling.
