Georgia AG urges state Supreme Court to reject DA Willis’ appeal in Trump case

Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr has asked the state Supreme Court to deny the appeal of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who was removed from the election interference case against President-elect Trump.

Earlier this month, the Georgia Court of Appeals disbarred Willis from the Georgia election interference lawsuit against Trump and others, citing “alleged fraud.” The committee also noted Willis' romantic relationship with Special Counsel Nathan Wade.

On Monday, the state's chief attorney, who announced plans to run for governor in November, posted a statement on social media regarding the sentence against Willis.

“The Georgia Court of Appeals has ruled that the Fulton County Attorney's Office created the conflict itself and rightly removed itself from the case against President-elect Trump,” Kerr wrote. “'Legal trouble' has become all too common in American politics, and it must end.

“After careful consideration of the trial court's findings, we conclude that it erred in not disqualifying Attorney Willis and his office,” the court filing said. “The remedies created by trial courts to prevent ongoing fraud give prosecutor Willis broad pretrial discretion in who to indict and what charges to bring. It does nothing to address the manifestations of wrongdoing that existed during the period in which it was exercised.
