Authorities are still searching for potential accomplices of Shamsuddin Jabbar, the suspect who drove a truck into a crowd in New Orleans before dying in a shootout with police on Wednesday.
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill told Fox News there was evidence that Mr. Jabbar worked with an accomplice to coordinate the attack, but she and other officials declined to provide further details. At least 15 people were killed and dozens injured in the Jabber attack.
“Louisiana has the death penalty and executes it!” Murrill wrote about X.
Before the attack, Jabbar posted a video on social media declaring his allegiance to Islamic State. The FBI's investigation now spans multiple states, but the number of potential accomplices remains unclear.

“FBI special agents and law enforcement partners are currently executing numerous court-authorized search warrants in New Orleans and other states,” the bureau said in a statement. “The FBI's Evidence Response Team continues to process the crime scene to carefully collect all relevant evidence.”

The FBI said it does not believe the driver acted alone. Investigators found a gun and what appeared to be an improvised explosive device inside Jabbar's truck elsewhere in the French Quarter.
Mr. Jabbar is an American born in Texas and previously served in the U.S. military. Authorities are still investigating how and when he became radicalized.
Jabbar served in the Army from March 2007 to January 2015 as a human resources specialist and information technology (IT) specialist.

After active duty, he served in the Army Reserve from January 2015 to July 2020 as an IT specialist.
During his tenure, he was deployed to Afghanistan from February 2009 to January 2010.

Authorities are already searching an AirBnB in New Orleans believed to be connected to Jabbar. They also executed a search warrant at his main residence in Houston, Texas.
The attack prompted authorities to postpone the Sugar Bowl to Wednesday night. The sporting event is currently scheduled to be held on Thursday night. Some stakeholders are calling for further postponement of the event.

Meanwhile, President-elect Trump called on the CIA to get involved in the investigation, calling Jabbar a “violent scumbag” and calling the current administration “incompetent and corrupt.”
His statement came after a Tesla Cybertruck exploded in front of the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas. It remains unclear whether the bombing, which killed one person, was connected to the New Orleans attack.
