Illegal border crossings drop right after Trump becomes president

The crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border as known for the past four years is over. The number of illegal border crossings has dropped significantly since Donald Trump officially took office this week.

Border Patrol encountered less than 1,000 illegal immigrants on Wednesday, NewsNation reporter Ali Bradley said, citing sources. That's in contrast to the Biden-Harris administration, when daily illegal crossings reached up to 14,000 people a day at its peak.

Mr. Bradley's sources at the Department of Homeland Security called this the “Trump effect.”

CNN too reported By the time Trump took office, the trend of illegal crossings had dropped to 1,100 per day. CNN reported that the border is currently “closed.”

The Trump administration is taking advantage of the traffic downturn to fortify the border as it awaits the final stages of completing border wall construction. An additional 1,500 active-duty soldiers will be sent to support Border Patrol and Customs agents. Military planes are also being sent to U.S. border cities to expand capacity for deportation flights.

As promised, the Trump administration's actions go beyond the southern border. On Trump's first day in office, border czar Tom Homan said U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents had arrested more than 300 criminal aliens across the country. Homan promised this is just the beginning.

“And just yesterday, in the last 24 hours, ICE arrested more than 308 felons. Some of them were murderers. Some of them were rapists. Some of them were rapists of children. There were sexual assaults against children. So ICE is doing the following: They're prioritizing what the president said, and they're doing great on the ground right now. We're going to continue to do that every day,” he explained on Wednesday.

Homan said the U.S. will first target threats to public safety, but if officers find someone in the country with illegal aliens, they will be returned to their country of origin as well. I made it clear that I was deaf.
