Gov. Kathy Hochul postponed a meeting with President Trump on Thursday after the Justice Department revealed he was suing New York State for the status of the sanctuary.
Hochul had planned to meet up with Trump for lunch but was rescheduled next week, CBS reported, citing sources associated with the situation.
It comes just hours after the DOJ slapped Imperial State in a lawsuit over a policy that would limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement.
“New York has chosen to prioritize illegal foreigners over American citizens,” said U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondy, who has announced the lawsuit.
“It's stopping. It's stopping today.”
The lawsuit filed in the Upstate District of New York targets the state's “Greenlight Law” that grants driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.
Hochul's office quickly targeted Trump's AG, calling the move “dramatic.”
“The facts are: current law allows federal immigrant employees to access a DMV database with a judicial warrant, a common sense approach that most New Yorkers support,” says Hochul's statement. The statement said.
“However, there is no way to allow federal agents, or Elon Musk's shadowy Doge to operate. Like a 16-year-old child, you can freely access and drive the personal data of New Yorkers in the DMV system. Learn and acquire other vulnerable people.”
