Gen Z has a new way of determining if someone is “old.”
According to 1 Reddit useryour email may be giving you age.
The writer shared that he gave Gen Z Coworker a personal email address.
The young colleague apparently asked, “How did you get that email address?”
“I had to explain when Gmail first came out, but it was an invitation only, but I got it from a friend early on, but my name was still available,” she wrote.
“Oh my god, I'm old,” she recognised.
She revealed that she was older by explaining the invitation process, as a Gen Z colleague didn't know that Gmail needed “at the time.”
“I have a common name, but this wasn't my first email address I've ever had. It's just the one I'm still using,” the user shared.
Reddit commenters shared their personal experiences about how emails are unexpected age markers.
“When I had to go through my resume, the emails that the people who used it used were always fascinating.
“I'm earthlink.net old,” writes another.
“Ha! I thought it was just me. Everyone in our house, even kids – have a Gmail account with their first early days and last name. I hope one day the kids realize how cool it is,” commented.

Many noted that having a Hotmail, Yahoo, or AOL email address often gives you age too.
“My name, there's no special character. Of course, if you use the Hotmail period, you'll become Geezer. It's not changed since '97,” someone pointed out.
“I got my Yahoo email address I set up 22 years ago and I'm still in progress,” the user added.
“I'm still using AOL Mail. This is a badge of honor at this point. I love to cause certain people.”
Some have admitted that having a simple Gmail address can be a curse.
“It's a curse to have a simple Gmail address. So many people accidentally sign up using my email address at least once a week.”
“This caused problems for me because everyone over the age of 60 thinks it's their email address,” another added. “That's why. Many doctors. Book an appointment. Email.”
