President Trump pushed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this week about the lockdown of aid to the Gaza Strip, saying, “We have to do good things to Gaza.”
“These people are suffering,” Trump said. He told reporters Friday in Air Force 1 when he revealed what he had told Netanyahu on Tuesday’s phone.
In his first public comment about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region, Trump said there is a “very great need” for food and medicine in the region.
“We’ll take care of it,” he added.
When asked how Netanyahu responded, Trump said the prime minister “feeled a lot about it.”
The Palestinian enclave has not received assistance since March 2, as Israel had previously said it would not allow goods to Gaza until Hamas terrorists released the remaining hostages.
The United Nations World Food Programme, the leading provider of food in Gaza; “We delivered the last remaining groceries to the kitchen for a hot meal,” he said on a strip Friday.
Meanwhile, the Israeli Defense Forces warned on Saturday that they were preparing to expand their attacks on Hamas in Gaza if hostage negotiations continue to stall.
The military will call a number of reserves and secure a new section of Gaza, according to the IDF. As long as hostage talks are dragged down, Israel’s attacks on Hamas will only grow, the military said.
