Jussie Smollett shares strange Instagram message claiming innocence and favorable lawsuit settlement with Chicago.

Jussie Smollett has recently taken to Instagram to share a lengthy rant, reiterating his claims of being a victim of a biased attack as part of an ongoing civil lawsuit against the city of Chicago. He expressed that, after the backlash from his alleged attack over six years ago, city officials attempted to persuade the public that he orchestrated the incident himself. This, according to him, has tarnished his reputation in ways that are yet to heal.

In his post, he stated, “These officials wanted my money and my confession for something I didn’t do. That should be obvious by now… but they haven’t gotten either.”

Smollett was found guilty in 2021 of staging a hate crime against himself in 2019, which led to the city suing him for $130,000 to cover the investigation costs of his false claim.

Recently, Smollett and the city reached an agreement where he would donate $60,000 to two local charities instead of making direct payments to the city.

According to his Instagram, the 42-year-old plans to donate $50,000 to a non-profit called the Bright Futures Center for the Arts, as well as to the Chicago Torture Justice Center.

Even amidst the legal turmoil, Smollett maintains his innocence, stating, “Despite the costly efforts to punish me, I am innocent in the eyes of God and our criminal justice system.” He expressed his commitment to continue his artistic endeavors and advocate for what he believes in.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported me. Your faith means more than words can express,” he concluded his message with gratitude.

While Smollett continues to assert his innocence, officials are clear that any legal victories he claims do not validate his narrative. Dan Webb, a former prosecutor, emphasized that the ruling does not alter the substantial evidence from the trial that found Smollett guilty of five counts of felony disorderly conduct. The charges were ultimately overturned due to what was determined to be a violation of his Fifth Amendment rights, as the state’s attorney withdrew the case amid complications tied to multiple felony charges from the fabricated attack.
