A woman was taken into custody after approaching Mar-a-Lago and claiming she had an “urgent message” for President Donald Trump, also mentioning a gun in her vehicle.
Caroline Shaw, 49, from Orlando, was arrested on July 7 on charges related to a suspended license and failure to register her vehicle, as indicated by court documents.
At the time, Trump was in Washington, D.C. Shaw reportedly drove a Mercedes van to the South Gate of Mar-a-Lago shortly before 10 PM.
According to the arrest report, she walked up to a Secret Service agent and insisted she needed to speak with Trump immediately.
Shaw also told the agent there was a gun inside her car. Agents, believing her claims, detained her and impounded her vehicle pending further investigation.
It hasn’t been disclosed whether a gun was found in the vehicle.
Records indicate Shaw’s driver’s license has been suspended since April 23, 2023, due to unpaid traffic fines, and her vehicle registration expired in December 2021.
As of July 9, Shaw was still in custody at the Palm Beach County Jail, held on a $2,000 bond.
She pleaded not guilty when she appeared in court on July 8, where the judge issued an order preventing her from approaching Trump, Mar-a-Lago, or his properties.
In addition to the vehicle offenses, the Palm Beach police filed for a risk protection order to bar Shaw from having guns and ammunition for at least a year.
