Incident Involving Suspected Arsonist in Los Angeles
A group of individuals in California was videoed confronting a man who supposedly ignited a fire in the trees and bushes of Los Angeles. They held him until the police arrived to arrest him.
This tense encounter took place on Sunday at Runyon Canyon in Hollywood Hills, the same area affected by the severe sunset fire that began in January. A woman was heard asking the man in a red tank top, “Did you start that fire? You just came from there, we just saw you.”
His response was rather nonchalant. “I did, you’re right. And I—yeah. Do you have a warrant for murder?” he said, turning away from her.
Another woman approached him, expressing her concerns about nearby houses. “What is f–? Should I be hospitalized?” she questioned, to which he replied, “You will be fined and hospitalized.”
As the situation escalated, a fire truck and helicopter arrived to combat the flames. The accused was handcuffed, while onlookers cheered.
The Los Angeles Police Department had not responded to a comment request about the incident as of Tuesday.
Witnesses mentioned the suspect’s uncertain identity. One bystander, Davan DiMarco, remarked, “He admitted that he did it. No one else came out of the tree. Apparently he had a brooch.” Another witness, Scotty Mitchell, claimed the suspect asserted, “I’m a firefighter and this is a controlled burn,” but didn’t produce a badge when asked.
Mitchell also noted that the scene felt like a flashback to “PTSD from January,” referring to the earlier fire disaster.
Firefighters managed to contain the flames to less than half an acre, as reported by local news sources.
