ICE claims Democratic congressman participated in 'violent mob' and revealed agent's identity

Federal Raid on Marijuana Facility in California

On Thursday, federal law enforcement officials executed a raid at a state-licensed marijuana facility operated by Glasshouse Farm in Camarillo and Carpinteria, California. Among those involved were Governor Gavin Newsom and Rep. Salud Carbajal (D-Calif.).

During the operation, authorities arrested about 361 undocumented individuals, including several Mexicans with serious criminal records—like Juan Duarte Barazquez, who has convictions for rape and DUI, and Jose Orellana, from El Salvador, who was guilty of DUI and causing property damage.

The Department of Homeland Security reported that at least 14 migrant children were rescued during the raid, aiming to protect them from concerns of exploitation, forced labor, and human trafficking.

As the agents conducted their operation, they faced violent resistance from mobs who appeared to have organized in advance to obstruct the immigration enforcement actions. Rep. Carbajal was among those publicly criticizing the law enforcement efforts.

Adding to the tension, the DHS accused individuals associated with Carbajal of doxxing ICE employees, leading to injuries among the agents during the chaos. In a statement, DHS noted that a business card of an ICE employee was shown to the crowd, resulting in the employee being attacked.

Interestingly, Carbajal described the violent protests at the marijuana facility as “peaceful,” asserting that the federal agents’ response— which included deploying tear gas—intensified fear and danger for the public and themselves.

In an interview, Carbajal reiterated concerns over ICE operations, suggesting that actions targeting what he termed “the brown” community risk violating civil rights and even the rights of U.S. citizens.

“No one is above the law, not even members of Congress,”

Carbajal emphasized the need for protests. However, ICE remarked that this rhetoric only incites violence and endangers officers. They accused Carbajal of prioritizing chaos over legal order.

DHS Deputy Chief Tricia McLaughlin criticized Carbajal’s actions, stating that they are far from American ideals. She contended that what he labeled as oversight effectively turned federal personnel into targets for mob violence.

In a response to allegations against ICE’s operations, Carbajal claimed that such accusations were distractions from their misleading narratives that sought to overlook the harm caused by their actions.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche indicated the Justice Department’s ongoing review of the incidents and aimed to pursue legal actions to uphold the rule of law.

DHS and Carbajal were contacted for further comments regarding the incident.
