As the presidential election approaches, immigration arrests in the Tucson sector hit a record low this year, with agents arresting just 2,900 immigrants last week, according to the district chief.
Tucson Sector Patrol Chief John Modlin posted a graph on social media showing a significant decline in weekly immigration arrests. In his most recent weekly report, Modlin reported 2,900 immigration arrests, down from 7,800 immigrants arrested in the last week of May.

The San Diego and Tucson sectors have alternated in recent months for the top spot for migrant border crossings heading west from Texas, with Tucson-sector agents apprehending more than 22,000 migrants in June, according to unofficial reports reviewed by Breitbart Texas.
Tucson Sector agents still hold the title of the Border Patrol’s busiest sector, with nearly 281,000 total migrants so far this year. The Del Rio Sector, last year’s busiest, has dropped to fourth place this year as enforcement activity in Texas and Mexico has increased and migrant crossing patterns have shifted westward.
So far this year, Border Patrol agents along the Southwest border have encountered about 1.4 million migrants crossing the border illegally between ports of entry, down slightly from the record-breaking numbers of the previous two years.
The Biden administration’s recent tactics to make it appear as though it has stepped up border security have resulted in the lowest month of migrant arrests since the administration took office, Breitbart Texas reported. Border Patrol agents apprehended just over 82,000 migrants who crossed the border illegally between ports of entry in June.
In January 2021, President Joe Biden signed executive orders repealing or reversing successful Trump administration policies, Breitbart News reported at the time. That month, Border Patrol agents apprehended just over 78,000 migrants who illegally crossed the Southwest border between ports of entry. This was the last time that CBP arrest reports would have five-digit numbers, until June 2024. In February 2021, agents apprehended more than 101,000 migrants, Breitbart Texas reported.
The arrest figure does not include the more than 1.1 million migrants the Biden administration has granted migrant parole under a program not authorized or funded by Congress, Breitbart News reported in June. The parole pipeline brings foreign nationals into the U.S. through the administration’s “CBP One” mobile app and “humanitarian parole,” Breitbart’s John Binder wrote.
The arrest figures also do not include the more than 194,000 people who are known to have fled so far this year, Breitbart Texas reported.
