Bill and Hillary wasted no time, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the party’s presidential nominee on Sunday after Joe Biden withdrew from the election.
While lavishly praising Biden for his accomplishments in office, the Clintons, who are rumored to have resisted private calls for him to step down, called for the party to unite around Harris.
“We have been through many ups and downs, but nothing has worried our country more than the threat posed by a second term for President Trump,” they said in a joint statement.
“Now is the time to support Kamala Harris and fight with all our might to get her elected. The future of America depends on it.”
Biden endorsed Harris as the party’s standard-bearer shortly after the political shock announcement.
Democratic insurgents opposed to Biden have been divided over how exactly the process to choose his successor should unfold, with some wanting an open process rather than appointing Harris to the post.
