Calls to Abolish ICE Intensify Amid Record Arrests in California
California’s Democratic lawmakers have stepped up their demands to dismantle Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following reports of an unprecedented number of arrests.
Tom Homan, who has been dubbed the “border czar,” appeared on FOX News, where he highlighted efforts to revoke commercial licenses from illegal immigrants, claiming a historic surge in arrests over five days.
“In just these last five days, ICE has apprehended over 10,000 illegal immigrants—this is the highest number the agency has ever recorded,” Homan stated during his conversation with Dana Perino. “It takes effort to locate these individuals, but we are committed to finding them every day.”
He also mentioned that some state officials, particularly in areas like New York, may be shielding undocumented immigrants from federal authorities.
“The interesting thing is that we’re successful in red states, but we face significant challenges in blue states,” Homan noted. “In places like New York, ICE and Customs and Border Protection can’t even access the DMV database!”
He reiterated that since May 1, federal officials have managed to eliminate over 28,000 commercial licenses associated with illegal aliens.
In light of these developments, Congressman Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) took to social media to express his stance, calling for the overhaul of ICE. In a post, he remarked, “The ongoing abuses and violations of human rights are too significant to overlook. It’s time for ICE to be abolished and replaced.”
Accompanying his post was a video in which he claimed, “People in detention are being denied fundamental human rights. During my visit to a jail in California, I witnessed a person with blood in his urine who was refused medical treatment. I also saw rocks mixed in food and individuals shivering without proper clothing. We must stop funding ICE, given these human rights violations.”
Homan further accused mayors and governors from sanctuary jurisdictions of “normalizing” illegal immigration by permitting undocumented individuals to obtain driver’s licenses.
