Calls for Resignation of Los Altos Vice Mayor
The chairman of the California Republican Party, along with other conservatives, is demanding the resignation of Los Altos Vice Mayor Larry Lang. This follows Lang’s repeated posting of the phrase “86 47” on social media and his comments regarding California’s Republican Party posts on Facebook.
A now-deleted post, which was shared as a screenshot by the California Republican Party and seen by Fox News Digital, revealed that Lang had updated his Facebook cover photo to feature the “86/47” shell formation. This imagery was tied to the recent indictment of former FBI Director James Comey, who faces federal charges related to threatening the president.
Furthermore, Lang commented on a recent post by the California Republican Party that highlighted a debate between current gubernatorial candidates. The party’s chairman, Colin Rankin, stated that the Democratic Party “lacks solutions,” expressing that Californians are primed for a change after 16 years under Democratic leadership.
Rankin described Lang’s actions as “unacceptable,” stating that they either reflect his ignorance of current events or, worse, could incite violence that threatens the political landscape. He emphasized that Los Altos deserves a leader focused on uniting the community. Lang has yet to respond to requests for comment as his automated email indicated he was “traveling” until May 4.
Lang, also serving as Deputy Mayor, has a role on multiple regional boards. Calls for his resignation intensified, with some conservative voices on social media urging for him to step down. Nick Poche, a spokesperson for the Republican National Committee, remarked that rhetoric should be curbed to prevent inciting “deranged” individuals who could pose a threat, referencing a recent thwarted incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
In a broader context, the term “86” is often understood as a way to indicate removal. As it happens, Donald Trump is currently serving as the 47th President of the United States.
Comey himself, previously indicted for the same imagery associated with a beach scene, claimed he misinterpreted the shell formation as a general political statement. He faces serious charges that could result in up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
