Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), former President Donald Trump’s vice presidential running mate, blasted President Joe Biden in a speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC) on Wednesday night, calling Biden a “career politician” and accusing him of spending his life in politics plundering Midwestern communities with job-killing free trade and endless wars.
“I grew up in Middletown, Ohio, a small town where people spoke their minds, built their towns with their own hands, and truly loved God, family, community and country,” Vance said. “But it was also a place that was abandoned and forgotten by America’s ruling class in Washington.”
Vance detailed how the globalist policies that Biden has supported throughout his decades of political career have impacted the small American town where he lives.
“When I was in the fourth grade, there was a politician named Joe Biden who supported NAFTA, a bad trade deal that cost countless good American manufacturing jobs to Mexico,” Vance said.
When I was a second year high school student, Joe Biden gave China a sweet trade deal and destroyed even more good middle class jobs. [Emphasis added]
Then, when I was in my third year of high school, Joe Biden supported the disastrous invasion of Iraq, and in the process, killed many in small towns like mine in Ohio. Or Pennsylvania, or Michigan, or any other state in the country. Jobs were moved overseas and children were sent to war. [Emphasis added]
At the same time, Vance said Trump has opposed the U.S. signing free trade agreements and the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan for decades, long before he got involved in politics.
“Somehow, Donald Trump, a real estate developer from New York, was right on all these issues and Joe Biden was wrong,” Vance said. “Donald Trump knew even then that we needed a leader who would put America first.”
