Derek Jeter brought some playful banter to “The Herd” on Monday, reminding host Colin Cowherd of a past mix-up involving Nolan Ryan. Jeter humorously nudged Cowherd, saying, “Before we start, just a reminder that you mentioned even smart people can be wrong. Last time I was here, you asked me about facing Nolan Ryan. Let’s hope you get it right this time.”
Cowherd took the comment lightly, brushing it off as part of their ongoing lighthearted exchange.
This reference dated back to a two-year-old episode when Cowherd had mistakenly stated that Jeter played in the “Nolan Ryan era.” Jeter quickly corrected him, saying, “No, I was following Nolan. Forever, ever, ever.”
While both players had significant careers, their timelines didn’t quite overlap. Nolan Ryan debuted in 1966, playing for 27 years until 1993, with his prime years mostly in the 1970s and 1980s. Jeter, on the other hand, began his Yankees career in 1995, really hitting his stride in the late ’90s and 2000s.
After that playful exchange, Jeter continued on “The Herd” to discuss the MLB All-Star Game and the current landscape of baseball. He shared his thoughts on the ABS system, expressing that he found it quite appealing. Jeter reminisced about a time in his career when he felt like he was seeing everything clearly, suggesting that in another context, he would have really nailed it.
Since hanging up his cleats, Jeter has immersed himself in sports media, currently serving as a studio analyst for Fox Sports. He frequently appears on MLB pregame and postgame shows.
