Dianna Russini boldly saves elderly man and his dog

What a week, right?

After stepping down from the New York Times amid a significant controversy, top NFL journalist Deanna Russini boldly helped an elderly man and his dog escape from a flipped Jeep. According to local news outlet Patch, around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, a 17-year-old driving a Honda Civic veered onto a road outside Wyckoff, New Jersey, colliding with a Jeep and causing it to overturn.

The 73-year-old man and his dog found themselves trapped inside the vehicle.

Just a day earlier, Russini resigned from the Times, which was embroiled in an internal investigation related to a photo that had surfaced of her appearing to hold hands with New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel.

Interestingly, witnesses noted that Russini was driving on the same road and saw the incident unfold right in front of her. She jumped out of her car, and with the help of another man, managed to pull the driver and his dog from the wreck.

This incident adds a surprising twist to what has already been a tumultuous week for both Vrabel and Russini. Reports had surfaced on April 7 that the two were seen together at the Ambiente resort in Sedona, Arizona, a location that is over two hours away from a work event they were scheduled to attend. They are both married to other people, which added a layer of complexity to the situation.

Both denied any romantic involvement, maintaining they were there with other friends.

Mr. Vrabel’s boss, Stephen Ginsburg from The Athletic, rushed to support Russini, claiming that the photo was missing crucial context. Ginsburg initiated an investigation upon learning of the photo and kept prominent reporters away from their posts until it wrapped up.

By the following Tuesday, Russini had officially resigned, stating she felt “unwilling to respond to a public inquiry that has already caused more damage than is acceptable.” She expressed that she didn’t accept the narrative surrounding the incident, but she chose to step down before her contract ended on June 30 to avoid allowing it to overshadow her career.

Russini has not commented further on the situation.
