Elizabeth Banks Calls for Action Following Election Results

Actress Elizabeth Banks expressed her disbelief that 53% of white women voted for Donald Trump over Kamala Harris. In her view, it’s “incomprehensible.” Banks encouraged women to emulate her character, Effie Trinket from “The Hunger Games,” and become “revolutionaries” against what she described as “fascist regimes.”

“The model is Effie, guys! I don’t get the 53% of white women who chose not to support Kamala. What were they thinking?” she stated in an article featured in a recent podcast episode posted on Tuesday.

Banks’ portrayal of Effie spans all four films in the original “Hunger Games” series. The character transitions from a spokesperson for a dystopian regime to a rebel opposing that very regime.

She shared her wish for more Americans to become activists, saying, “I wish more people would become revolutionaries!” She elaborated on Effie’s complexity, noting that although she initially supports a corrupt system, it’s the realization of its injustices that drives her to change.

Interestingly, a Pew Research Center analysis pointed out that a majority of white women confirmed they indeed voted for Trump in the 2024 election.

Prior to the election, Banks publicly endorsed Kamala Harris, actively campaigning for reproductive rights. Just weeks away from the election, she joined Harris’ Reproductive Freedom Bus in Las Vegas, urging her followers to prepare for Election Day.

As Banks emphasized the urgency of the situation, she said, “Our rights, freedoms, and access to health care are literally at stake. Check your registration status and make a plan for Election Day. Only 19 days left! Let’s go!”

However, it’s worth noting that Banks will not reprise her role as Effie in the upcoming installment of the series. Instead, actress Elle Fanning will portray a younger version of the character in “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping,” which is set to be released this fall.

In response to Banks’ comments, White House Press Secretary Davis Engle claimed that “no one in their right mind cares what some insane, woke celebrity in Hollywood says or thinks.”
