A courageous father from Pennsylvania, Peter Dituri, shared his emotional experience after he leaped onto an alligator attacking his son, expressing his clear fear of Florida in a recent interview.
His son, 11-year-old Brody Dituri, suffered a bite from an alligator while they were fishing in Marion County last week. Peter mentioned they were consulting with doctors about potential transplants or prosthetics for Brody.
While on a family vacation on June 27, Brody was bitten by an 8-foot-7-inch alligator as he attempted to return a fish to the water, according to his father.
Peter described how he instinctively leapt onto the alligator, trying to pry its jaws apart while shouting for someone to call emergency services.
“There was no thought process. It was just instinct,” he recounted.
Unfortunately, the alligator rolled, a tactic it uses to drown its prey, which resulted in the severe injury to Brody’s hand.
Peter explained that authorities later noted if he hadn’t intervened, Brody might have been dragged underwater before the alligator could roll further.
Passersby quickly came to their aid, prompting Peter to express his deep gratitude for their help amidst the chaos.
He reflected on the joy he and Brody found in fishing together during past visits to Florida, highlighting that Brody would always grab his fishing rod whenever they spotted water.
Now, following this traumatic experience, returning to Florida isn’t on the table for them anytime soon. “Right now, that’s definitely not going to happen,” Peter said, noting that his son has developed a significant fear of the state.
