Florida woman charged with murdering two former partners on the same day, facing death penalty

Prosecutors in Florida are looking to pursue the death penalty for a woman charged with the killings of two of her former partners on the same day.

Susan Avalon, 51, was taken into custody in December after David Scott, 54, was found shot in the chest on the porch of his home in Bradenton on December 17. Timothy Fletcher, 55, was later discovered dead in his Tampa residence.

As reported by the Tampa Bay Times, Scott was alive when officers arrived and identified Avalon as the shooter, stating she was “probably my ex-wife, Susan,” according to an affidavit.

The following day, authorities located Avalon at her place and asked her about her ex-husband. She responded, “Which one?” based on information from the New York Post.

It became apparent she might have had more than one victim.

Interestingly, she was also seen reportedly cleaning the inside of her vehicle with bleach.

Fletcher was found dead with gunshot wounds, and police discovered broken glass at the back door after conducting a welfare check prompted by his conversation with Avalon.

“Witnesses reported seeing Avalon near her home around the time of the shootings,” stated the Hillsborough County State’s Attorney’s Office. “Some evidence reportedly links her to the crime.”

According to the Tampa Bay Times, officials believe that Avalon might have killed Fletcher first and then Scott several hours later.

Her current partner, Jeffrey Wescoat, shared with law enforcement that Avalon had sent him “unusual” texts throughout the day, and even called him to express her love “in case anything happened.”

He recounted overhearing her say “Fuck, David, Fuck, Tim” before she returned home, changed her clothes, and showered.

“While our case focuses on one victim here in Hillsborough County, we know that this tragedy did not end with one life,” said State’s Attorney Susie Lopez. “Two families are grieving, and we are committed to pursuing justice for those impacted by this senseless violence.”

The state attorney’s office is pushing for the death penalty because Avalon’s actions were described as “callous, calculated, and premeditated,” and deemed “particularly heinous and brutal” due to the circumstances surrounding the crimes.

Avalon faces charges of first-degree murder in connection with Fletcher’s death and second-degree murder regarding Scott’s case.

She is currently being held in Hillsborough County without bail and is expected to appear in court again in July.
