Hope Walz Calls for Gun Control After Threat Against Trump
Hope Walz, daughter of the controversial former Minnesota governor and vice presidential candidate Tim Walz, expressed her views on gun control following a recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
“Gun control isn’t just about saving Democrats; it’s about saving Republicans too,” she mentioned in a TikTok video this week, seemingly trying to position herself as someone on the left with a strong moral stance.
“It’s frustrating that you’d think by now we could just demand some common-sense legislation, but I really don’t know. I don’t know,” she added with a hint of sarcasm. “We often say political violence is unacceptable here, and it absolutely should be. That’s one of the key differences between us and them. Violence is never acceptable.”
Hope emphasized, “There are actions we can take: sensible gun control.” She concluded her remarks by urging the audience to “do something for everyone.”
“For everyone, yes. Happy Tuesday,” she continued, candidly admitting, “I’m feeling a bit anxious today, but let’s do our best to push through it.”
This outcry comes from the same Walz who previously dismissed Trump’s crime-fighting initiatives in Washington D.C. as “the actions of a cranky, scared cat.” Interestingly, she did not address the inflammatory and violent language often echoed by some of her leftist peers, which arguably inspires extremists, including the person behind the assassination attempt.
In fact, Hope’s father is currently involved in a significant fraud scandal related to Somali issues, linked to a narrative pushed by a left-wing extremist who attempted to carry out the assassination.
In 2024, Hope Walz claimed that Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden resembled a Nazi gathering from the 1930s, arguing that he fully understands the implications of these events.
Last year, during a law school graduation speech, her father labeled Trump a “tyrant,” warning that the nation was witnessing a breakdown of the rule of law. “This is what our founders feared: tyrants who abuse their authority to persecute,” he remarked.
He also criticized Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), comparing its operations to a “modern-day Gestapo.” In line with her father’s rhetoric, Hope referred to ICE as “unfundable” and a “terrible Gestapo.”
This week, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt pointed out parallels between the left’s rhetoric and the manifesto from the individual posing a threat at the White House Correspondents Association dinner.
“Think about how similar his manifesto reads compared to the everyday discourse we hear on social media and various forums. Frankly, there’s not much difference,” she noted, suggesting many violent manifestos echo sentiments familiar from mainstream political discussions.
The suspect, identified as Cole Allen, expressed in his manifesto a desire to target attendees of certain events he deemed inappropriate. “If absolutely necessary, I would target almost everyone here, as they are accomplices by attending these speeches,” he wrote, ending with a declaration of anger over the current administration’s actions.
