An investigation and search is underway after multiple people were found dead at two homes in Illinois Monday afternoon, according to the Joliet Police Department.

Police announced at a press conference Monday night that seven people were found shot to death.

Joliet Police detectives are currently searching for Romeo Nance, 23, who is believed to be driving a red Toyota Camry with license plate number Q730412.

Police believe Nance knew the victims and that they were related.

“In my 29 years of service, this is the worst crime scene I have been involved in,” police told local reporters at a press conference.

Detectives said this was an active investigation and Nance should be considered armed and dangerous.

The identities of these victims have not yet been made public.

Nance is also wanted in connection with several other shootings.

Deputies said they were called to an apartment complex just before 4:30 p.m. Sunday and found a man bleeding from the head with an apparent gunshot wound. Deputies told WGN 9 the victim later died.

The victim was later identified as Toyosi Bakare, a 28-year-old from Nigeria who had lived in the United States for nearly three years, WGN 9 reported.

About 10 minutes before the shooting, a 42-year-old man was shot in the leg and suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Authorities said the victims in Sunday's shooting were not connected and appeared to be random.

The license plate number of the vehicle authorities believe Nance was driving matches a vehicle found near the scenes of both shootings Sunday, authorities said.

Nance was accused of trying to shoot a woman multiple times about a year ago, according to Patch and court records. Police found the man near the home and arrested him after a brief struggle with officers.

According to court documents, Nance was charged as part of Operation New Year's Resolutions and was released after posting $10,000 of a $100,000 bond.

Anyone with information about Nance or the vehicle is encouraged to contact the Joliet Police Department.
