AI-Generated MAGA Influencer Revealed as Scam
An individual has come to light as an AI-generated persona, created by a young man from India, aiming to con people out of money online. This person claims that Meta’s Instagram algorithm played a role in popularizing his content.
The so-called MAGA influencer, known as Emily Hart, purportedly amassed millions of followers through content featuring patriotic themes, like posing in a bikini while ice fishing, enjoying Coors Light, and showcasing firearms. But it turns out, according to a report, that Emily Hart is an artificial construct created by a 22-year-old Indian man named Sam. He mentioned that he’d earned thousands from this scheme, funding his goal of attending medical school.
Sam explained that the idea of selling AI-generated images of conservative women in bikinis struck him during his online search for additional income. With aspirations of moving to the United States after graduating, he thought about ways to save money. After experimenting with creating a YouTube short and offering study notes to peers, he had a new brainstorm. This involved using a tool from Google’s Gemini to create AI-generated women and sell their bikini images online.
Seeking guidance from Google’s AI chatbot, Sam was told that a generic portrayal of a “hot girl” would place him in competition with countless other models. The chatbot advised that he might find success in the “MAGA/conservative niche.” It mentioned that conservative audiences, particularly older American men, often have more disposable income and are generally loyal.
So, he developed Emily Hart—a fictitious registered nurse who bears a resemblance to actress Jennifer Lawrence. On her Instagram account, Sam posted rather controversial images along with statements that included sentiments like, “If you want a reason to unfollow, Christ is king, abortion is murder, and all illegal aliens must be deported,” and other divisive commentary.
Sam created content that echoed pro-Christian, pro-Second Amendment, anti-abortion, and anti-immigrant sentiments. To his astonishment, Emily Hart attracted 10,000 followers on Instagram in just one month, leading him to feel quite taken aback by the engagement he received.
He shared, “Every reel I posted got millions of views. The algorithm loved it.” It took him only about 30 to 50 minutes a day to create this content, which was surprising given the earnings he generated as a medical student. Sam remarked that the income was something he hadn’t seen possible in India, even with a professional job. He described it as one of the simplest ways to earn money online.
However, the Instagram account associated with Emily Hart has been removed due to rules that ban users from sharing AI-generated content unless it is appropriately labeled. A representative from Meta stated that users are required to disclose and label content that consists of realistic video or audio created or modified digitally, or else they risk penalties for not complying.
Additionally, Sam revealed that he earned further income through paid subscribers on Fanvue, a platform similar to OnlyFans, which allowed the posting of AI-generated content. He utilized Grok AI to create a nude photo of Emily Hart for the site. In his words, “I was basically doing nothing,” suggesting that the money-making opportunities were plentiful.
He commented, “The MAGA crowd is made up of stupid people, super stupid people,” implying that they are susceptible to such deceptions. Interestingly, he also attempted to create a liberal version of Emily Hart, but it didn’t garner the same financial results.
Even with Emily Hart’s social media accounts being deleted, Sam maintained that he would have eventually ceased posting AI-generated content. He expressed, “I don’t feel like I was deceiving anyone,” and mentioned he had no regrets about his approach.
This context highlights important discussions around AI and its repercussions, with a recent book exploring both its advantages and potential issues, including the risks of individuals forming “relationships” with AI and how scammers could exploit the technology on vulnerable audiences.
