Democratic strategist James Carville doubled down on his warning that “feminine” messaging was alienating male voters from the party.

Carville has repeatedly spoken out about the rise of “preachy women” in the Democratic message, warning that they are alienating men and working-class voters. Speaking on Donny Deutsch’s podcast “On Brand” in June, he criticized the mentality of people who preach rhetoric like, “Don’t eat burgers, don’t watch football, wear condoms. It’s like, leave me alone, OK? I have God and I have a life to live.”

At the Aspen Institute’s Aspen Ideas Festival on Thursday, liberal journalist and MSNBC host Jonathan Capehart Carville was invited to discuss The article was titled “Have the Democrats Forgot How to Communicate?”

“When you start speaking in a language that people don’t speak, people get resentful. And when you start speaking like NPR, you’re going to lose votes,” Carville said, giving the example of a man on the street in New Orleans asking, “Hey, guys, how’s it going in communities of color right now?”

Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville warned that far-left preaching is alienating voters.

Carville slammed the thinking behind such hypocritical statements and repeated previous comments he has made.

“‘We know what’s best for you. Don’t eat burgers. Don’t watch football. Don’t drink beer.’ Where do you think our young men are going? The bathroom. Because the Democratic message, I’m sorry, is so feminine. And that’s the reality,” he said.

Capehart read Deutsch’s comments from an appearance on her podcast to the audience, and responded: “James, I understand your point, but many people you know would say there are too many ‘preachy women.’ You sound like a 20th century person living in a changed 21st century country.”

Capehart asked Carville to “please discuss this with me and with anyone else who has been offended by what you said there and perhaps whose conscience would not allow it.”

“If you think about the Democratic message, listen to NPR and read what’s coming out of there, and you’ll see. Unfortunately, there are too many preachy women in the Democratic campaign. People think we’re judgmental,” Carville replied.

To emphasize his point, he said, “If the evidence doesn’t show up in examples, just look at the number of men who identify as Democrats.”

He then pivoted, claiming that there are many Democrats who are actually willing to lose just to demonstrate their moral superiority.

“One of the things I’ve found is that some people don’t care if they lose an election because it makes them feel good and it makes them feel superior. They just want to win. That’s your goal. If you don’t win, you’re nothing. You’re just running around with talking points, OK? You can’t win elections by telling people they have bad diets.”

He argued his comments were intended to “spark debate” within the Democratic Party about its activities and messaging.
