Joy Reid Calls MAGA a “Murderous Cult”

In a recent episode of her podcast “I’ve Had It,” former MSNBC host Joy Reid characterized the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement as a dangerous cult, particularly in light of the recent shootings involving President Donald Trump and Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA.

In September, following Kirk’s assassination, an article in The Atlantic predicted an increase in left-wing terrorist acts by 2025, surpassing those from the right. On her podcast, Reid expressed her belief that MAGA supporters might be willing to “wage a holy war” for Trump.

“Many politicians have mentioned, privately and publicly, that the fear is real—if you don’t obey him, his cult could turn violent,” she explained. Reid referenced comments made by former Republican Senator Mitt Romney, who indicated that some lawmakers hesitated to vote for Trump’s impeachment due to fears of retaliation from armed MAGA supporters.

In a 2023 biography titled “Romney: A Reckoning,” Romney recounted hearing from an anonymous source cautioning senators against convicting Trump in his impeachment trial, citing possible security risks.

While some left-leaning individuals expressed satisfaction over Kirk’s assassination, many Democrats have indirectly blamed Republicans for rising political violence in the aftermath of these events.

Hunter Biden also weighed in during an appearance on the “Wide Awake Podcast,” suggesting that Kirk’s assassination ultimately served the interests of MAGA. “I don’t know why Charlie Kirk was shot,” he said. “But it seems like MAGA benefitted from it.” His comments hinted at a broader narrative of indignation within that community.

The suspect in Kirk’s assassination, Tyler Robinson, reportedly had a relationship with a transgender individual, which he alluded to in a text message. Robinson’s parents informed authorities that their son had recently adopted more liberal views regarding LGBTQ+ rights, according to Utah County Attorney Jeffrey Gray.

Robinson also texted about being “tired” of Kirk’s beliefs, expressing a clear disdain.

In the wake of Kirk’s death, a YouGov poll revealed that 25% of very liberal respondents believed that political violence could sometimes be justified.

Tucker Carlson, co-founder of the Daily Caller News Foundation, noted in a documentary that Thomas Matthew Crooks, the first person to attempt to assassinate Trump, later became quite critical of him, even describing Trump supporters as resembling a “cult.”
