Justice Department Calls for Reporting of Illegal Visa Practices

The Justice Department is urging individuals to report any illegal visa activities that might negatively impact American workers. Citizens are particularly encouraged to identify job listings that seem to favor seasonal or H-1B visa holders.

“If you’re an American citizen who notices an unfair preference for foreign workers, it’s important to speak up. You can report issues like trafficking of migrant workers or job discrimination under Title VII,” the statement noted.

The ongoing scrutiny of more than 55 million visa holders is part of a broader effort, initiated during the Trump administration, to reassess how these programs are managed.

The DOJ is also accepting tips related to potential trafficking violations that could involve temporary visa programs. Earlier this year, discussions around the H-1B visa intensified. Critics assert that it hampers American talent in crucial fields like technology, while supporters argue it benefits the economy.

Senator Bernie Sanders highlighted concerns in a post, stating, “The H-1B Visa program’s primary function seems to be replacing American jobs with lower-paid workers from abroad. The more they save on labor costs, the wealthier a few individuals become.”

Furthermore, during an interview, Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis described the H-1B program as “a complete scam.” He mentioned, “Some companies manipulating the system are laying off Americans while obtaining new H-1B visas or renewing existing ones.”

As for the current status of the H-1B visa, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services announced that for the fiscal year 2026, the petition limit of 65,000 has already been met, along with an additional 20,000 slots set aside for those with advanced degrees. This visa is largely aimed at skilled workers in various sectors, including engineering, medicine, and law.

Major reforms are underway to make sure that the administration reviews all visa holders effectively. A spokesperson for the State Department indicated that this encompasses every valid visa holder in the US, and any involvement in criminal activities or terrorist organizations might lead to visa revocation.
