Bakery Vandalism Incident in Washington
In a strange turn of events, a 28-year-old man from Maryland was arrested for allegedly tossing a beer keg through the window of a well-known bakery in Washington. The bakery, Georgetown Cupcake, gained fame from a reality TV show and is located at the intersection of M Avenue and 33rd Street.
The suspect, identified as Charles Joseph Ali from Rockville, faces a felony charge for criminal property damage related to the incident, which occurred late Sunday night. Interestingly, he is also under suspicion for a separate case of property damage involving another company back in April, although no charges have been filed there yet.
Georgetown Cupcakes was featured on the show “DC Cupcakes,” which aired for three seasons, and is famous for its long lines of customers. The bakery is run by sisters Sophie LaMontagne and Catherine Berman, who swapped their careers in finance and fashion for this family business.
Following the incident, a representative from the bakery stated that they would remain open, assuring customers of their commitment to business as usual.
After the attack, which left the storefront with significant damage, the bakery quickly covered the broken windows with plywood, and the owners were keen to continue serving their customers. Berman mentioned a staff member who encountered the suspect and felt genuinely terrified during the incident.
In surveillance footage, it shows that before throwing the keg, the man attempted to pull a metal trash can from the curb, but to no avail. After turning a corner, he returned and launched the barrel, causing apparent distress among the bakery employees.
Berman expressed her concerns over the impact this event could have on her team, who are understandably shaken by the whole experience. She emphasized that the bakery community thrives on respect and mutual support, which makes such actions all the more troubling.
