Louisiana Man Charged with Murder in Death of U.S. Marshal Deputy

A man from Louisiana has been charged with murder following the fatal shooting of a U.S. marshal deputy. This incident occurred while officers were attempting to execute an arrest warrant, as announced by federal authorities on Tuesday.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Louisiana reported that several law enforcement officers were trying to serve an arrest warrant tied to previous sexual assault accusations when 48-year-old Clarence A. Frazier Jr. allegedly barricaded himself inside his home and opened fire.

Frazier now faces charges for murdering a federal officer, and if found guilty, he could either spend life in prison or receive the death penalty.

Authorities identified the slain deputy as Drew Hanson, highlighting him as a devoted husband, father, and son. The Acting U.S. Attorney, Todd Blanche, expressed sorrow, stating, “Tragically, the defendant’s alleged actions cost the life of a dedicated law enforcement officer who was simply doing his job. The alleged perpetrator is currently in custody and will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”

This tragic event unfolded on July 13 when agents from the U.S. Marshals Service and the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office arrived at Frazier’s residence with a search warrant.

According to a federal criminal complaint, Frazier had failed to show up in state court for trial concerning charges of sexual assault involving a person with a disability.

Law enforcement officers announced their presence before breaching the home, where Frazier reportedly barricaded himself in a bedroom, fired at officers, and assaulted Hanson during the confrontation.

Ultimately, Frazier was apprehended following a standoff, but tragically, Hanson succumbed to the injuries he sustained during the altercation.
